16th Annual New York Times Travel Show, January 26 and 27, Showcases National and Global Trends

Via jet (private or commercial), cruise, bus, train or hot air balloon, get to the 16^th Annual New York Times Travel Show this Saturday and Sunday to discover national and worldwide uncommon adventures atthe largest and longest-running show of its kind in North America. More than 600 exhibitors and travel experts will be at the Jacob Javits Convention Center to help you plan the Who, What, When, and Where of travel – how to get there, what not to miss, where to stay, and where and what to eat. Whether you prefer the Old World or the new, an Arctic polar expedition; black sand beaches of Hawaii’s Big Island or the Caribbean’s white sand beaches; the hustle, bustle, and grandeur of India; the antiquities of Egypt, Greece, Israel, and Turkey; Norway fjords and waterfalls; the beauty of Brazil or Mexico; the sophistication of Argentina; the romance of France; the splendors of Bhutan or the Himalayas; an Aegean odyssey or the twists and turns of the Rhine, Danube, Nile, or Mississippi; the Alaska Gold Rush train or the Orient Express; Thai temples and elephants; hiking the Great Wall; wild life safaris; tickets for the Kabuki or the Bolshoi; observe koalas or polar bears; Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, or San Francisco treats or Florida’s Disney World, Epcot, Universal Studios, and Sea World, you’ll learn the latest in travel trends. It’s a sort of around-the-world in 80 days adventure but in two days!

There’ll bebrochures, oodles of maps, live costumed entertainers at the Pavilion Stages, cultural presentations, photo ops, food tasting, and seminars. In addition to the large travel bookstore, there’ll be a Products and Services Pavilion.

Are you packed? Have your passport? If you need help with the latter, in a Travel Show first, the U.S. Department of State will host Passport Acceptance, where you can apply for U.S. passports (first time applicants and renewals).

There’ll also be a Broadway treat: Saturday at 11 A.M., at the Taste of the World Stage enter to win tickets to Waitress, now starring multi-platinum-selling Grammy winner, actress, and composer/lyricist Sara Bareilles, and enjoy a live rendition of “What Baking Can Do” and a tasting of pies from the Waitress cookbook. There’ll also be a book signing.

This is an expansive event, so wear comfortable shoes as you trek the wonders of the U.S. and world. You have to be fast on your feet and use the Travel Show Official Guide, available as you enter, to catch as many events as possible.

Among them: Saturday, 1 P.M., Phil Rosenthal, from Netflix’s Somebody Feed Phil, will be in the kitchen with Joan Nathan (King Solomon’s Table), upcoming Times Journeys host, who’ll also do a book signing – or eat your way around Italy with food expert Elizabeth Minchilli and New York Times food writer Melissa Clark, followed by a book signing. At 4, discover where in New York chefs go to find the spices that enable them to recreate authentic tastes here and abroad – or meet French chefs and enjoy a tasting of their celebrated cuisine.

Saturday and Sunday the Global Stage will be busy from morning until closing, showcasing the culture, music, traditions, and treasures of the world with participants from Alaska – and Croatia, Cuba, Guatemala, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, and Sicily. There’ll also be Moroccan and Russian music; dancers from Botswana, Bhutan, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Sicily, and Taiwan – including a Ballet des Ameriques presentation blended with Creole rhythms; a Japanese traditional taiko drum performance; and Thai martial arts and sword play.

Sunday, at 1 P.M., Cuban singer/songwriter Enrique Nuñez performs. At 1:30, there’s something a bit different as Provincetown presents the comedy and music of New York-based drag artist Marti Gould Cummings. Then, at 2:30, Dream Vacation’s Rosemarie Reed discusses cruising with the scoop on hot destinations and gives away a $2.500 Dream Vacation and Tumi luggage. Explore the glaciers of Greenland, the coastlines of Europe’s North Atlantic with Adventure Canada at 3.

Tickets are $20 for a one-day pass, $25 for two days.
