Celebrate Films that Advance Worldwide Peace

Global Peace Film FestivalNow in its 9th year, The Global Peace Film Festival showcases international films with subjects ranging from the human condition to sustainability and the environment. The Central Florida-based film festival takes place in Orlando and Winter ParkFlorida from September 21st to 26th2010.

Focusing not just on anti-war, activist, or ideology statements, the festival aims to "suggest a more personal message as reflected in the daily lives of individuals and communities the world over."

The five-day event will screen films from all over the world that highlight the possibility of global peace. Guests also participate in panels with the filmmakers and special guests.
 
Tuesday, September 21nd is the Opening Night outdoor screening at Rollins College on Mills Lawn featuring Throw Down Your Heat, which follows American banjo virtuoso Bela Fleck on his journey to Africa to discover the African root of the banjo and record an album. 8 pm. Free. (in case of rain, the film will be shown indoors).

Film highlights include: Climate Refugees, Michael Nash's documentary about the impact of climate change; Budrus, the award-winning film documenting the non-violent struggle for justice in the Middle East; comedian Ahmed Ahmed's film of his tour of the Middle East with other stand-up comedians; and The Invocationan examination of God and peace, narrated by Sharon Stone.

On Friday, September 24th will be the filmmaker reception at Ten Thousand Villages (346 N. Park Ave., Winter Park). The festival’s visiting filmmakers and special guests will be available to meet. Light snacks from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pmFree.

In addition to screenings and film-specific events, the festival also features a street fair with a wide array of vendors, artists, and organizations. Sunday, Sept. 19th, 10am - 3pm, on Morse Blvd. between Park Ave. and Knowles Ave., Winter Park.  As part of the street fair, there is also a Pet Parade for Peace, which invites people to bring their furry companions to participate in a half-mile procession.
