Indie Memphis Film Festival returns October 21 to 29, 2020. Adjusting to the changing landscape, this year’s festival will be “Online and Outdoors” as film lovers from all over the world will participate in the virtual screenings and events. Memphis audiences will also enjoy in-person screenings at the Drive-In and outdoor lawns.

The fest will feature the upcoming A24 release Minari, written and directed by Korean-American filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung (Lucky Life), as this year’s Centerpiece Film. Minari follows a Korean-American family that moves to a tiny Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream. Also playing is Regina King’s feature directorial debut One NIght In Miami, which will be the fest’s Closing Night film.  One NIght In Miami is a fictional account of one incredible night where icons Muhammad Ali (Eli Goree), Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom, Jr.), and Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge) gathered discussing their roles in the civil rights movement and cultural upheaval of the ‘60s. 

All this and many more films to be screened.

2020 New York Baltic Film Festival: Laughter, Drama, & More from the Baltics

Laughter, chills, and thrills are part of the upcoming New York Baltic Film Festival. Running from October into November, the festival is split into three segments that will be streamed online. October 15 to 18 is the Laugh & Cry segment showcasing comedies such as Chasing Unicorns directed by Rain Rannu, and The Castle, directed by Lina Lužytė. October 29 to November 1 will be Stress & Release: Baltic Thrillers. These tense dramas include Foam at the Mouth, directed by Jānis Nords, and Invisible, directed by Ignas Jonynas. Lastly is Looking Inward & Forward: Baltic Showcase which runs November 12 to 15. These films include Truth and Justice, directed  by Tanel Toom and Oleg, directed by Juris Kursietis.

NYBFF Head of Programs Jūle Mare Rozīte comments on the program: “This year is all about being adaptable and finding new ways to move forward. Even though travel is restricted world-wide, we can still connect with each other through art – and what better way is there than by understanding what makes people smile, what excites them, and how they see the future. We at NYBFF have had to think on our feet, and have come up with a compact and powerful program that brings the culture and spirit of the Baltic States to audiences across the U.S. with the best new films from the region. Laugh, be thrilled, and get introspective like a Balt.”

The 8th annual Chelsea Film Festival returns October 15 to 18. Streaming on FilmFestival+, the CFF features works from 18 countries showcasing shorts, documentaries, features, and virtual reality exhibitions.

Films being shown include:

• A Case of Blue
  Directed by Dana H. Glazer
  Recently retired Richard Flicker attends a life-drawing class and encounters free-spirited Amelia, the spitting image of a long lost love from decades ago. Grappling with a troubled home front, Richard flirts with the temptation of this second chance at romance.

• Celeste
  Directed by Ben Hackworth
  Hidden from the world at a crumbling estate in lush tropical Far North Queensland, Celeste anxiously reaches out to Jack, her late husband’s son, inviting him to return to the languid, sprawling family home for her much-anticipated recital. Jack’s reappearance after a long absence stirs up unsettling memories, pulling them both into a mutually precarious orbit.

• Soundtrack to Sixteen
  Directed by Hillary Shakespeare
  A coming of age story of a boy and girl growing up in London in the 2000s, dealing with the everyday insecurities that make your world implode at sixteen.
