Gathering of the Vibes Music Festival 2011

The 16th annual Gathering of the Vibes Music Festival runs July 21 – 24, 2011, at Seaside gvm-ECostelloPark in Bridgeport, Connecticut. With four days of music and over 50 artists, Vibes is expecting 45,000 total attendees, of whom 15,000 will be camping overnight.

The diverse line-up attracts a cross-generational crowd, making Gathering of the Vibes unique to the festival scene.

The shows start as early as 11 a.m. and can end later than 3 a.m. so young and old alike can experience a wide range of music in an atmosphere of infectious togetherness and community.

With a designated family camping area, it is a welcoming place for parents and kids of all ages to enjoy good company, live music and the great outdoors. Last year over 2,000 children were in attendance.

This year, Gathering of the Vibes has partnered with School of Rock, the nation’s leading performance-based music school. The School of Rock Teen Vibes Stage will bring students together with established artists to participate in workshops and jam for the Vibes audience.

Other additions that highlight the festival’s family appeal include an 85-foot Ferris Wheel and expansions in the Kids Corner and Teen Scene. And if you are still not convinced that the event is kid-friendly, children 12 and under get free festival admission when accompanied by an adult.

TajMahalTrio2011smKeeping with the spirit of community, the annual GOTV Food Drive, co-sponsored by the Terrapin Foundation, will be collecting non-perishable food, personal hygiene products and clothing to donate to the Connecticut Food Bank and the Bridgeport Rescue Mission.

Additionally, several local charities, including Rex Foundation and American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut, have been invited to participate in Gathering of the Vibes’ Non-Profit Village, where they can raise awareness and gain support for their cauderik-susanXses.

As another way to give back, admission fees will be half-price for veterans and Connecticut residents on Sunday.

New in 2011, ″Vibes NY Bus″ will provide late night transportation departing Friday and Saturday nights at 1:30 a.m. from Seaside Park to New York's Penn Station.

And don’t forget to bring a hula hoop and a kazoo: On Sunday morning, Gathering of the Vibes hopes to break the Guinness world record for most hula hoopers at one time and most people playing the kazoo at once.
