The 52nd annual Newport Folk Festival is taking place July 30 - 31, 2011 at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island.

Started in 1959 as a counterpart to the Newport Jazz Festival, The Newport Folk Festival features music ranging from folk, blues, country, bluegrass and folk rock to alternative country, indie folk and folk punk.

The Newport Folk Festival has served true musical omnivores that crave innovation yet appreciate tradition. This year‛s Festival continues to build on its historic past by featuring emerging young artists alongside some of folk music’s most venerable names.

This year‛s Festival also introduces The First Annual Newport Folk Backstage Benefit BBQ on Saturday, July 30. The Low Anthem will be performing along with fellow Rhode Islander John McCauley of Deer Tick and Middle Brother, plus surprise guests.

This year the Festival presents the new children’s tent, The LEGO DUPLO KidZone. This marks the first time the renowned festival has dedicated a specific area to families of young children where they can listen to music, build, play and rejuvenate.
