The Fourth Annual Sunset Strip Music Festival is taking place August 18 - 20, 2011 at the Cat Club, House of Blues Sunset Strip, Key Club, The Roxy Theatre, Viper Room and Whisky A Go-Go on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, California.

The three-day celebration of music is held along the iconic 1.6 mile stretch of Sunset Boulevard, celebrating the music and icons that have left an imprint on the legacy of The Strip.

On Saturday, Sunset Boulevard will be closed to traffic between Doheny Drive and San Vicente Boulevard so as to have outdoor stages, beer gardens, a VIP lounge, food trucks, interactive experiences and live performances within the venues during the day until 1-2 a.m.

The Festival kicks off Thursday with the ceremony awarding the Elmer Valentine Award at House of Blues Sunset Strip. Receiving this year‛s Award is Mötley Crüe for their contributions to the history of the Sunset Strip.

"It's an honor to be recognized by the Sunset Strip Music Festival," said Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee. "It means a lot to us that we are recognized for our contribution to this historic place."

"Bursting onto the scene in the early ’80s with a sound and style that blended punk, glam and heavy metal, Mötley Crüe helped re-establish The Sunset Strip as one of the top music destinations in the world," says SSMF Executive Director Todd Steadman.

"The band has forever left their mark on the music industry and The Sunset Strip, and we’re looking forward to celebrating their influence and bringing their spirited energy to this year’s tribute event."

Mötley Crüe‛s "headlining set at SSMF will feature the "360" vertical drum roller coaster. The 360 features Tommy Lee being launched into multiple vertical loops while continuing to perform. To add to the insanity, Lee will pick a SSMF fan from the audience to join him for his crazy ride."
