Vision Festival XV - the creative option

The 15th annual Vision Festival is 11 days of art, music, dance, and poetry running from June 20th through June 30th 2010. Presented by Arts for Art, Inc. this year's theme  is "The Creative Option", which exemplifies the project's commitment to showcasing innovators in avant-garde jazz and the performing arts. The festival has at its core a "link between the pioneering legends and the innovators of the future". The 2010 festival bestows a special honor to free-jazz musician, composer, and educator Muhal Richard Abrams for a lifetime of achievements.

Vision Festival XV spans seven venues and comprises over 60 events, including ground-breaking music and dance performances, poetry readings, film and visual art installations, as well as informative  panel discussions about the culture and business of music.

Kicking off the 11-day event is an afternoon of poetry and music at Gathering of the Tribes (285 East 3rd Street). On Monday, June 21st, the music begins with a free outdoor concert at Campos Plaza playground (13th Street between Avenues A and B) and continues at The Local 269 (269 East Houston Street). Tuesday evening's performances are to be held at Drom (85 Avenue A).

From June 23rd-29th, the evening begins at the Abrons Art Center (466 Grand Street), where many simultaneous performances are held on two stages. Afterwards, the festival continues at the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center (107 Suffolk Street).

Vision Festival XV closes on Wednesday night, June 30th, with several performances at Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker Street).

Ticket prices for the Vision Festival events vary by day, but range from $5 to $25 with discounts available for students, seniors, and members. A multi-performance pass is also available for 6-night attendance at the Abrons Art Center.
