The Annual NY Clown Theatre Festival Yucks it Up

Clown Theatre FestivalBig shoes and face paint and red noses oh my! It's time for the New York Clown Theatre Festival at The Brick (575 Metropolitan Avenue in Brooklyn, NY)! From September 6th through the 26th, 2010, mimes, acrobats, contortionists, side show specimens and, of course, clowns will be taking over Brooklyn.

It's time to abandon notions of sophistication and have a laugh. With 20 stage shows, five cabarets, several workshops, a parade, and even a clown funeral, the zany annual NY Clown Theatre Festival promises to bring in the clowns. The event will showcase performances by comedic talent from all over the country and the world. Content runs the gamut from lighthearted and family-friendly silliness to some rather off-color Tom foolery.

There will be plenty of stage shows to entertain festival-goers. Theatre Group Dzieci returns to bring you a "hilarious, even creepy version of clown work" to the stage for Cirkus Luna!, about a horrifically bad circus troup from Molvenia.

Coney Island Chris will be executing ridiculous and dangerous traditional side-show stunts, like sword-swallowing and sticking his bare hands in animal traps— sacrificing his safety to make you laugh.  Pie Fight!

Two lady clowns duke it out for your attention and affection in Clowns with Gowns, performed by Adriana Chavez and Heidi Rider from Blue Lake, California.

International sensations Dennis and Parry-Jones of Wales will perform a heavenly comedy Send in the Angels.

There is plenty of opportunity to discover your inner Pierrot or Curly as well. Talks and workshops include a chat with Senior Artistic Talent Scout for Cirque du Soleil Yves Sheriff and a workshop on performance with Dell'Arte International's Joan Schirle. There are even events for children, including some wacky learning time with the New York Fool's Academy.

The fun starts Friday, September 3rd, with a subway parade on the L train and a pie fight. Festivities close with a morbidly hilarious funeral procession through Williamsburg on Sunday, September 26.

Tickets (Regular $15 / $10 for Weekend Matinee Family Shows) are available by calling 1-866-811-4111 or online at bricktheater.com
