The 30th American Film Market (AFM) is taking place November 2 - 9, 2
011 at Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel, the Fairmont and Le Merigot Hotels in Santa Monica, California.
AFM is a marketplace where the business of independent motion picture production and distribution culminates yearly, as more than 8,000 industry leaders converge for eight days of deal-making, screenings, conferences, premieres, networking and parties.
The AFM is produced by the Independent Film & Television Alliance® (IFTA®), the trade association representing the world's producers and distributors of independent motion pictures and television programs.
This year AFM also collaborates with the American Film Institute’s AFI Fest 2011 for the 8th year. Some 27 films selected for AFI Fest 2011 will also be represented at the American Film Market.
This year‛s special event is Thai Night.
Thailand is regarded as a premiere destination for filmmakers, which can help the country become a regional center for the entertainment business. The Southeast Asian kingdom boasts highly qualified, skilled professionals "able to assist and collaborate with filmmakers in all stages of movie production at relatively low cost".
Each year, Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana has emphasized the strength of the Thai film industry. She will preside over Thai Night on November 3rd, attended by senior Thai government ministers, business leaders and members of the film and entertainment industry.
The new AFM Conference Series covers:
- Pitch – attendees learn the essential rules and tools of pitching from the experts, then volunteers from the audience will have a chance to pitch their film
- Finance – independent film financing: emerging trends, where the money is, new opportunities and incentives
- Production – how brand integration and packaging are now as much a part of film production as the traditional creative factors
- Marketing – exploring how consumers can be the most effective marketing tool and how to win them
- Distribution – experts share successful strategies for managing and monetizing the proliferation of global platforms and changing release patterns
Industry Conversations are with:
- Rob Reiner
- Lauren Shuler Donner
- Kevin Pollak
- Selma Blair
Over 10,000 films have been launched thanks to AFM, a growing number of which have been Academy Award winners.
