Anime NYC: Mobile Suits, Idols, Manga & More at the Javits Center

 

Anime NYC returns to the Jacob Javits Center this November 15 -17, jam packed with special guests, screenings, exhibitors, and more. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the series that changed anime forever, Mobile Suit Gundam, Anime NYC welcomes series creator Yoshiyuki Tomino as a special guest. Yoshiyuki Tomino will participate in panels, signings, and the US premiere of Gundam: Reconguista in G Movie I, the first in a line of summary movies for the 2014 Gundam series about a massive space elevator. Other special screenings include the East Coast premiere of the latest film from Makoto Shinkai (Your Name), Weathering With You in which a high school boy moves from a secluded island to the bustling streets of Tokyo where he meets a mysterious girl. Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! about a group of ambitious high school girls who set off to create anime will have its world premiere at Anime NYC with special guest, producer Eunyoung Choi of Science SARU (the studio that brought you Devilman Crybaby), the US premire of Fragtime (with special guests voice actor Miku Ito and Producer Yusuke Terada at the screening), the dub premiere of Lupin the 3rd: Goodbye Partner, and more.

Anime NYC will include a plethora of panels from across the anime and manga industry including Denpa, Viz, and Crunchyroll, as well as panels on subjects such as Japanese pro wrestling, idol groups, cosplay, vintage anime, and more. Manga publisher Viz (One-Punch Man, My Hero Academia, Drifting Classroom) will be conducting portfolio reviews for you aspiring future manga-ka.

For the musically inclined the Lantis Anime Matsuri celebrates the 20th Anniversary of Japanese music label Lantis and features popular anime song or “anisong” performers JAM Project, TRUE, ZAQ, and Guilty Kiss from Love Live! Sunshine!! Aqours on Friday November 15. It wouldn’t be an anime convention without a Masquerade, and Anime NYC’s will include a special guest performance by Miku Ito from BanG Dream.

Tech Entrepreneurs Soar at Propelify Innovation Festival


The Propelify Innovation Festival will bring together 8,000+ entrepreneurs and innovators for talks, tech, exhibitors, music, VCs, VR, drones, music, food, drinks, and so much more. Happening October 3 at Pier A Park in Hoboken NJ, Propelify covers the world of health care, how science will affect our lives, crypto currency and blockchains, commerce, retail, and business with over 70 speakers. Onsite events and competitions include a casting call for the show Elevator Pitch as well as TechstarsStartup Competition to send an entrepreneur to Los Angeles for the Entrepreneur's Casting Call.

Other onsite events include a Women in Tech Lounge, a chance to learn about partnering with Amazon, a drone racing training area, and more.

2019 New York Art Book Fair Rings in Autumn

Fall is upon us, and that means so is the return of the NY Art Book Fair. Held at MoMA PS1 (22-25 Jackson Ave., Long Island City) from September 22 to the 25th, the NY Art Book Fair features over 370 exhibitors from 30 countries, with art publications from all over on display. Free and open to the public, the fair includes special exhibitions, talks, workshops, book launches and performances, as well as many off-schedule events hosted by individual publishers. The fest was founded in 2005 by Printed Matter’s and has become the leading international gathering for the distribution of artists’ books.

 Special portions of the show include The Stage, a space with over 20 performances from musicians and sound artists to poets and performance artists. The Dome Spotlights is a new curated section of 34 exhibitors, whose selection was based on a single artists’ book project, now presented in expanded form on occasion of the Fair.

Cannabis World Congress & Business Exposition Helps Seed Hemp Growth in NYC

 

The burgeoning world of cannabis dispensaries is getting bigger and bigger every day, and the  Cannabis World Congress & Business Exposition (CWCBE) is here to inform and help people navigate it. The CWCBE has installments in Los Angeles and Boston, but the New York one is held at the Jacob Javits Center from May 29 to June 1, 2019. The CWCBE assists dispensaries, growers, supplies, investors, medical professionals, government regulators with the growing world of weed.

CWCBE spotlights charity and social events, educational programs, new product launches, town halls, and networking events for the enterprising pot purveyor. Educational panels inform on the medicinal properties of cannabis, use in therapy for returning vets, speculation on the future of the hemp industry, workshops, and more.
