Chicago Comic Con Features NYC Horror Film Festival Killer Shorts Sudden Death Compete

The third NYC Horror Film Festival Killer Shorts Sudden Death Film Competition was held August 22nd, 2010, at the Wizard Chicago Convention. The brain child of The NYC Horror Film Festival Programming Director Joseph B. Mauceri, and NYCHFF Director Michael J. Hein, The Killer Short Sudden Death Competition is the ultimate horror and sci-fi short film series where audiences selectsthe winners.

The winner, Get Off My Porch -- directed and written by Patrick Rea -- stars Brad Meehan, Katherine McNamara, and Andrea Strickler, an amazing second win for the filmmaker whose film Now That You're Dead won the Philadelphia competition.

Get Off My Porch finds Neil (Meehan) trying to enjoy a quite evening at home while his wife is out shopping. His me time is interrupted when two girl scouts, Mary (McNamara) and Cindy (Strickler) show up on his porch to sell him some cookies. Neil is not really not interested but these girls are not taking no for an answer. The more forceful Neil is the harder the girls try to make their sale until the situation escalates out of control in this war of the cookies.

The first NYC Horror Film Festival Killer Shorts Sudden Death Film Competition was held April 19th, 2010, at the Wizard Anaheim Convention. Written By -- directed by Karni Baghdikian -- was the first film voted into the 2010 NYC Horror Film Festival program by the Wizard audience. The favorite of the Wizard Philadelphia Convention, held June 13th, 2010, was Now That You're Dead -- directed and written by Patrick Ream.

Comic Con audiences’ next opportunity to select a film is the Big Apple Comic Con October 1-3, 2010, followed by the New England Comic Con, Oct. 15-17, 2010.

“The addition of the Film Competition to the Wizard Comic Con series gives attendees who love horror an early look at some new works from talented filmmakers, and the chance to choose which they like best,” said Wizard Entertainment CEO Gareb Shamus.

Added Mauceri, “I’m totally blown away that Wizard is giving us the opportunity to partner with them so we can reach out to more filmmakers and bring their films to an even bigger audience."

The NYC Horror Film Festival Killer Shorts Sudden Death Film Competition was first held at the Monster Mania Convention, August 2009. The audience winner was a short from the Dublin-based company First Quarter Films, Wheels Of Death, directed by Edward & Rob Kennedy. Coming together swiftly in order to meet the approaching convention deadline, the organizers were stunned by the more than 40 submissions and an audience of more than 150 attendees.

In four more major cities, the competition offers filmmakers a unique opportunity to have their short films screened and voted on by hundreds of fans, and a chance to win a coveted programming slot at the 2010 Killer Shorts Sudden Death Film Competition.

Filmmakers and fans can take part in the Killer Shorts Sudden Death Film Competition by attending Wizard Comic Con events in 2010 where short filmmakers will have their work viewed by a live audience and voted into the NYC Horror Film Festival program later this year.
