Kaiju & Brews at Five Points Festival

Art by Thomas Fernandez (@liveradstudios).

What do you get when you get art, toys, and beer colliding in one event? You get The Five Points Festival, happening June 2 and 3 at the Brooklyn Expo Center (72 Noble St, Brooklyn, NY 11222). Now this isn’t convention for Funko Pops and mass produced products, Five Points Fest instead features designer statues, toys, soft vinyl (sofubi). Sometimes these toys look like vintage Godzilla figures from the 1970s, sometimes they look like creatures born from your strangest dreams, and often times they look like a combination of the two. The toys at this fest come from the likes of Super7, StrangeCat Toys, Wonder Goblin, Unbox Inudstries, Punk Drunkers, Hakaba Gallery, and more.

Sometimes these toys can be a little on the expensive side since they are hand made in very limited quantities, so some visitors might need to drop some inhibitions to drop the cash on them. That is where the other part of this festival comes in: the beer. Five Points Fest is co-sponsored by Lagunitas Brewing Company and they will be providing a Beer Garden flanked by a phalanx of food trucks.

The Festival will also be kicking off the Designer Toy Awards. Curated by Clutter Magazine, the DTA celebrates excellence in the world of strange plastic, with public voting and special guest judges.
