Has the world got you down? Feeling a severe lack of brightly colored animals in your life? Do you prefer your cats with red bows and no mouths? If you’re in the Denver area, then Sanrio has the event for you. The Hello Kitty Supercute Friendship Festival is coming to the Denver Coliseum (4600 Humboldt St, Denver, CO), June 5 - 7, 2015 as part of its North American tour. The festival celebrates Hello Kitty’s illustrious forty year career.

Going beyond a traditional live stage show, Hello Kitty’s Supercute Friendship Festival offers a unique multi-component walk-around festival atmosphere for Sanrio fans of all ages. It will feature Hello Kitty and her friends in multi-stage live performances, DJ-driven dance sequences, interactive exhibits, animation, fashion, photo ops, craft activities, event-exclusive collectibles and much more!

Along with luminaries such as Hello Kitty, Badtz-Maru, and Keroppi, expect appearances from newer Sanrio characters like Purin, a a golden retriever that resembles a large flan, and Kuromi, a mischievous imp-girl that plays the guitar.

Kitty was created by graphic designer Yuko Shimizu in 1974 and has since become one of the foremost cartoon icons of the 20th century and still going strong in the 21st. This festival follows off of Sanrio’s first Hello Kitty museum exhibition at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles which ran from October, 2014 to May, 2015. Banzai, Kitty-chan!

Integrated Marketing Week June 9th and 10th in NYC

New York is a town full of marketers working at advertisers, advertising agencies, and media companies. There are many conferences and other events covering advertising in all its many forms including new developments such as programmatic advertising. However, conferences that cover the wide landscape of marketing and marketing technology and automation are still few and far between in New York even in the light of the growing interest in marketing technology and automation. One series of events that does cover this wider landscape of marketing is the Internation Marketing Week (June 9 - 10, 2015) of which the International Marketing Week conference at the Millenium Hotel (145 W 44th St., NY, NY) is the centerpiece event which presents a gamut of experienced practitioners and thought leaders speaking on the many different aspects of integrated marketing not surprisingly in these times with somewhat if emphasis on digital marketing, data driven marketing, and marketing automation across the many channels and touchpoints that marketers now have to make use of to engage current and prospective customers.

The Integreated Market Week conference consists of two days keynotes and panels discussing the latest in omni-channel marketing during which leading practitioners and thinkers will discuss what is possible today, mistakes to avoid and lessons learned, and what we can look forward to as marketers become more experienced in planning and executing integreated omni-channel marketing programs. Second Special Edition: NYC Changes Venue, But Is Still All About Comics

Returning to New York on June 6th and 7th, 2015, ReedPop's Special Edition: NYC is a convention that’s an extends its popular New York Comic Con (NYCC) which takes place in Autumn 2015. But this show primarily focuses on comic books and their creators. The art and writing of comics is highlighted here, not the Hollywood-ification that has become so popular that sometimes overshadows that core creative side.

This show brings together the creators and fans, and offers the experience that comic cons were originally intended to provide. This gives fans the opportunity to meet their favorite writers and artists from all over the world, get quality time with them, and give them the recognition they deserve without being overwhelmed by the media hype that’s taken over the scene at the media-driven cons.

The show utilized a structure similar to what’s done at NYCC's artist alley (jerry ordwaythough this year it’s set at Pier 94 rather than the Javits Center). By being at a different venue this year, it highlights that is is different from NYCC. So the emphasis is on the fan, the creators' tables, comic vendors, and comic companies.

Here’s the chance to focus on meeting your favorite comic creator on a personal level, getting autographs and photos, or getting that one-of-kind commissioned sketch from somebody you’ve just discovered.

SEN features a long list of creators appearing, both returners from last year and new to the show. Guests include:

  • Meredith Gran
  • Jerry Ordway
  • Howard Chaykin
  • Jose Garcia-Lopez
  • Annie Wu
  • Ming Doyle
  • Brandon Graham
  • Alex de Campi

You can purchase comics getting great deals at this show. Perhaps you can search for that missing issue you need to fill out your collection, or gawk at/join in with the endless parade of cosplayers.

It’s reported that NYCC tickets will be available on-site during SE 2015 just in case you weren't able to obtain one through online -- or if you prefer to perform a traditional in-person transaction.

Go through your comic collections for that specific book you want signed by your favorite creator — check out the list on the website and see if they will be there; or save up some money to get an artwork created by your favorite artist right there at the show. This show will be one memorable experience for any comic fan — from the youngest to those convention veterans.

Book Expo America & BookCon in NYC

This year's Book Expo America (BEA) trade show promises to give attendees access to what's new, what's next, and everything exciting in the world of books. Whether or not it does is another question. The American Booksellers’ Association, (ABA) has been holding this event for decades. Back in the day, it was possible to actually make money by getting as many giveaways as possible and selling them to local used bookstores. You can’t really do that anymore as everything is now digital.

There is still plenty to do however, as there are dozens of panel discussions and the like (they don’t do official receptions anymore, or at least won’t tell me about it.), and even though the amount of giveaways have declined, the exhibit floor is still full of interesting stuff. A new focus is on digital self-publishing, which means that print is now passé and just about anybody with a computer can produce an e-book and sell it on Amazon, and they have a number of workshops on how to do this. With bookstores rapidly becoming extinct, alternatives need to be found and pronto.
Over the weekend, the trade show will, for the second year running, be accompanied by BookCon, which is sort of like a comic book convention only without the pictures.
The general public is permitted to attend BookCon.
