What started as a small convention geared towards indie comics and ‘zines, MOCCA Fest (named after the Museum of Cartoon and Comic Art, but is now operated by The Society of Illustrators), now touts itself as a multimedia event spanning comic books, webcomics animation, artists, and cartoonists. Running April 1 and 2 at Metropolitan West (639 W 46th St., NY NY), MoCCA Fest attracts 400 artists/exhibitors and features fresh new talent as well as some great comic pros.

Paper Girls artist Cliff Chiang and SVA grad that brings a punk sensibility to superheroes, Becky Cloonan, will be on hand. Gene Luen Yang,  author of the groundbreaking books American Born Chinese and Boxers & Saints returns to MoCCA. Somewhere between comic, tragic, grotesque, and beautiful, the work of award winning artist Drew Friedman has appeared in Raw, Weirdo, American Splendor, Heavy Metal, The New York Times,  among many others, and will also be a guest of honor at MoCCA. Rounding out the special guests is British comics veteran and V for Vendetta artist, David Lloyd.
