Trolls, Chinese Zines, & Psychiatric Wards: Outsider Art Fair NY 2019

 

Featuring works that go beyond the traditional expectations of art, the New York Outsider Art Fair gives a different perspective. Held at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 West 18th Street) from January 17 to 20th, the Outsider Art Fair features an array of artists from the 20th century and today that were self taught or operated with methods and techniques that challenge the fine art world.

The Fair will also include plenty of panel discussions and lectures.”Unusual Brains: Neurodiversity and Artistic Creation” examines the lives and work of artists that lived under psychiatric care.”Trolling at Hotel”, held at the Ace Hotel lobby (20 W 29th St), looks at how a hotel became a shrine to figurines with unkempt hair. “Good Kids: Underground Comics from China” highlights the rise of zines and underground comix in China from the late 1990s to today. “Phyllis Kind, Outsider Art's Grande Dame“ celebrates the life and legacy of OAF founding participant, Phyllis Kind, who worked to promote and preserve the creations of outsider artists.
