NYC Restaurant Week Winter 2010

NYC Restaurant Week Winter 2010 is being held from January 25 to February 2, 2010 in Manhattan. NYC Restaurant Week® is New York City’s original dining celebration.

As the country’s first-ever restaurant week, NYC Restaurant Week debuted in 1992 when it was developed as a one-time culinary event to welcome the Democratic National Convention (DNC) to the City. Though created to appeal to delegates and other DNC attendees, the program also found a strong following among residents excited to dine at some of the City’s top restaurants for a fraction of the usual cost—$19.92 for three courses—and who wanted NYC Restaurant Week to be a recurring event.

Over the past 18 years, NYC Restaurant Week has grown tremendously. It has expanded to include both lunch and dinner offerings—three-course, prix-fixe meals for $24.07 and $35, respectively—and extended to two weeks (including Sundays for some restaurants) in both the summer and winter.

Due in no small part to these enhancements, NYC Restaurant Week now stands apart as one of the City’s most exciting and anticipated events and a pioneer in the dining community.

This winter marks an all-time high of more than 260 participating restaurants— representing a cross section of the NYC culinary scene that encompasses a diverse range of cuisines and includes some of its most time-honored restaurants and buzz-worthy newcomers. Through its evolution, however, the program has been guided by an unchanging commitment to give visitors and residents the opportunity to experience the quality, variety and hospitality that embody the NYC dining experience.

Some restaurants will be extending their NYC Restaurant Week Winter 2010 menu through February 28.

The NYC Restaurant Week Truck

New York has always been the world's leader in mobile cuisine—which is only natural, considering how fast everything moves here. In recent years, the City's grab-and-go offerings have blossomed far beyond the expected pretzels, hot dogs, ice cream, falafel and "street meat," yielding a startling selection of four-wheeled pizzerias, French cafés, bakeries and more. Now, in honor of NYC Restaurant Week, the City has commissioned the NYC Restaurant Week Truck.

This heavy-duty vehicle comes fully loaded with power steering, automatic transmission and an extensive menu of soups from 24 of the tastiest Winter Restaurant Week participants.

For a limited time, mouthwatering (and hand-warming) delicacies from the likes of '21' Club, Delmonico'sSteakhouse and Tribeca Grill will be available on New York City sidewalks. The soups cost just $6 and come complete with bread from Tom Cat Bakery. Coke will also be on hand with free sample beverages. It's enough to rev any foodie's engine.

And because NYC cares about more than just great food, $1 from every $6 NYC Restaurant Week Truck purchase will go to The Haiti Relief Fund at the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City, aiding disaster-relief efforts in Haiti.

To make sure that all New Yorkers and visitors have a fair shot to steer their way to these piping-hot, delicious offerings, the NYC Restaurant Week Truck will be on the move during NYC Restaurant Week (weekdays only, from 11am to 2pm, January 25 through February 5), stopping at three busy Manhattan street corners.
