19th Fringe NYC Fest Keeps the Stage Strange

Celebrating nineteen years of dance, comedy, performance art, vaudeville, and just about every form of entertainment performed on a stage, the Fringe NYC Festival (August 14 - 30, 2015) explodes onto New York in sixteen venues spanning downtown Manhattan.  This year the festival will present programming by 184 of the world's best emerging theatre troupes and dance companies representing 8 countries and 21 US states.  With attendance topping 75,000 people, FringeNYC is New York City’s fifth largest event. Delight in drag, view some vaudeville, and treat yourself to see some stages as genres are bended.

Some of the shows being performed include:

  • The Curious Case of Phineas Gage
Inspired by the life and times of Phineas Gage, one of the most famous cases of traumatic brain injury in all of neuroscience. In this hysterical journey reminiscent of Monty Python, a trio of 19th century conspiracy theorists follows young Phineas' exploits in PT Barnum's freakshow as he discovers the secret history of psychic aliens on Earth. A thrill packed evening that just might change your life...forever.

  • The Egg Project
A startling comedy about the complexities of father-son relationships, personal accountability and the repercussions of broken family ties. After being away for fifteen years, Marty Edgett thought he had finally shed the baggage his microbiologist father Robert saddled him with. When Marty returns home eager to show off the new life he's created for himself, Robert is waiting to show Martin the new life that he's created with the help of a Little League line-drive, formaldehyde and a chicken egg.

  • This is a Play About Artists
Starting at the moment two star-crossed ex-lovers meet, This is a Play About Artists follows Narrator and Poet as they use art, from visual to musical and even multimedia, to relive their relationship in the past and present — and explore its inevitable future. The journey is an absurdly funny, unexpectedly charming battle of inspiration, lust and identity.

  • Kamikaze Cutesauce Cosplay Club
An unholy amalgamation of the Rocky Horror, Japanese animation, Kabuki theatre, and Dadaism and generally defies description. Has to be seen to be believed.

This is only a small sampling of the wide range of plays, comedy acts, performances and more coming to the festival.
