Now in its 5th year, the KINO!2018 Festival of German Films returns to a new venue at the Landmark at 57 West (657 W 57th St.m NY, NY) to feature new and classic works of German cinema. The fest opens with the US premiere of Ewald André Dupont’s 1925 silent film Varieté accompanied with live music by pianist Stephen Horne and composer Martin Pyne.
Next Generation Short Tiger 2017 is a slate of short films made from winners of the German Federal Film Board’s FFA Short Tiger Award for the best German short films under 5 minutes. Two episodes of the German bank thriller Bad Banks from director Christian Schwochow. Marieke Schroeder’s documentary, Bar Talks, is a boozy global tour with barman Charles Schumann, a legendary cocktail connoisseur as he takes time to chat candidly with colleagues, friends and admirers about the importance of creating the perfect drink.

Cult classics and new oddities collide at the What The Fest happening at the IFC Center (323 6th Ave, New York, NY) from March 29 to April 1st, 2018. Specializing in odd works of horror, sci-fi, documentary, thrillers, and more, What The Fest includes a wide range of titles and features.
Films include Valley of Shadows, a Scandinavian Gothic fable shot on 35mm, about a small boy who sets out into the deep, dark woods in search of a mysterious creature (Filmmaker Jonas Matzow Gulbrandsen will appear in-person for a post-screening Q&A). In The Endless two brothers return to the cult they fled years ago, only to discover that the group's beliefs may make much more sense than they once thought. For those looking for the lost instead of the new, special screenings include Curse of Snakes Valley (colloquially known as the Soviet Indiana Jones) with a world premiere restoration.

Showcasing groundbreaking Indian cinema the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) will take place April 11-15, 2018 at Regal L.A. Live (1000 W. Olympic Blvd., Los Angeles, CA) with a slate of features, shorts and documentaries.
IFFLA will open with In the Shadows, starring Manoj Bajpayee as a reclusive shopkeeper who vows to rescue his young neighbor from abuse at the hands of his father. The fest will conclude with Village Rockstars a coming of age story of a ten-year-old girl in a remote Assamese village who dreams of buying a guitar and starting her own rock band. Will include a memorial tribute screening of Chadni, starring the late Bollywood actress Sridevi. Released in 1989, the titualr Chadni moves to Mumbai after her fiancé is paralyzed in an accident, and falls for a charming widower. When the two men become friends, Chandni must decide whom she truly loves.
