Summer Fancy Food Show 2011 is in DC

The 57th Summer Fancy Food Show 2011 takes place July 10 - 12, 2011 at the Walterffsd-Latkes E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.

The show is sponsored by the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade (NASFT), which is a not-for-profit trade association established in 1952 to foster trade, commerce and interest in the specialty food industry.

"The three-day trade event is the largest marketplace for specialty foods and beverages in North America. The Show attracts buyers from around the world looking for what’s next in great food to present to customers in the year to come."

The sofi Awards are considered the highest honor in the $70 billion U.S. specialty food industry. "sofi" stands for Specialty Outstanding Food Innovation.

Italy, for the 30th year in a row, will have the largest pavilion at the Show, where one can savor the best of Italian foods. The Italian Trade Commission will bring together a wide range of authentic Italian gustatory products, all distinguished by their unique "Made in Italy" designation.

Visitors can see and experience samplings of wine, cheese, freshly pressed fruit juices and extra virgin olive oil, as well as gelato- and pasta-making demonstrations. New items this year include:ffsd-DonnaChoc

  • frozen pizza and focaccia
  • individually quick frozen and organic quick frozen desserts and dairy products
  • gluten-free specialty foods, including pasta
  • flavored vinegars and salts
  • artisanal beer
  • ready to eat dishes
  • new extra virgin olive oils

New Jersey artisanal Chocolatier, Diane Pinder, announces the launch of two new products. "We’ve been developing two new products under our CocoaBee brand that will be officially launched at the NASFT Summer Show," said Diane Pinder, Chocolatier and founder of Donna & Company. "These two products, Honey Caramels and Pistachio Brittle Bites, emerged from my Tuscan Style chocolate perspective."

The Sweetery is introducing three of its creations at the Show: ffsd-WineStix

  • Wine Sticks, in chocolate, apple and cinnamon espresso
  • Cake Croutons, for crust or trifle, or even right out of the bag - in 5 flavors
  • Red Velvet Fusion Cake, a decades-old Southern red velvet cake recipe with a cream cheese filling

Choice Organic Teas is delighted to present five new teas

  • Oothu Garden Green
  • Wild Forest Blackffsd-Tsac
  • Decaffeinated English Breakfast
  • Yerba Maté Mint
  • Rooibos Superfruit

Sales of these teas, sourced from four different continents, are also to support the Jane Goodall Institute and Choice‛s commitment to social and environmental sustainability.

To go along with any fine loose tea, Elmwood Inn Fine Teas has the wonderful T-sac filters. Now tea lovers who tire of cleaning up after used loose tea leaves can fill their own tea bags. Sizes range from single-cup bags to bags for 2-3 cup and 4-6 cup teapots, to the large bags for large teapots and catering vessels. No tea drinker's kitchen should be without them.

Bourbon Barrel Foods is presenting their Blue Grass Soy Sauce. Made in Louisville, ffsd-SoysauceKentucky, this is America's only micro brewed soy sauce. It is made from locally sourced non-GMO soybeans and pure limestone filtered spring water, then aged 12 months in re-purposed bourbon barrels. The result: "a smoky, brothy soy sauce with hints of oak and a mild sweetness reminiscent of fine Kentucky bourbon."ffsd-Snapper

QimiQ Red Snapper Sliders with Mango Ketchup are a must-try. The QimiQ Classic in the recipe keeps the burger moist and juicy, enhances the natural flavors and reduces the fat content. QimiQ Classic also creates a creamy consistency to the ketchup, adding a great twist to a traditional hamburger.

Ciao Bella, the gelato and sorbet company, introduced two new products: Belgian Chocolate S’mores (offered in novelty squares and pints), and a new Blueberry Passion bar. These treats are a great addition to their already fabulous line of sorbet flavors, such as Key Lime Graham, Peach Ginger and Blackberry Cabernet, and with summer in full blaze they couldn‛t come at a better time.

Linda's Gourmet Latkes is adding new flavors: Zucchini and Curry. Her other innovation is the Extra Large 3-ounce Latke, in Original Flavor and Zucchini.ffsd-CiaoB

Other new samplings on hand are:

  • Strawberry Fig Syrup by Blackberry Patch
  • Chocolate-Covered Wine Grapes from Bissinger's Handcrafted Chocolatier
  • Chocolate Mini-Pops by Rogue Confections
  • Sesame King Tahini Paste from Sunshine International Foods, Inc.

This is but a morsel of the hundreds of delights in store for Show attendees -- and the eagerly waiting consumers out there.

Giving Back – At the end of the Show, exhibitors plan to donate more than 100,000 pounds of specialty foods and beverages to area residents in need through DC Central Kitchen (DCCK), a leading anti-hunger organization that prepares and delivers more than 6,000 meals a day to 100 partnership agencies.
