AARP Life@50+ Expo 2011 is happening September 22 - 24, 2011 at the LA Convention Center in Los Angeles, California.
Some very exciting sessions are matched with concerts and exhibits, as well as a great opportunity for free health screenings. In addition, a mini-film festival is included in the festivities. And non-members are encouraged to attend as well.
Feature Sessions – These sessions present celebrities and entertainers who share their personal life experiences. This Expo introduces:
Lifestyle Sessions – Brain health, travel, relationships, identity theft, finances, wellness -- these are pretty much the most important concerns at a time when what we did in our 30's and 40's won‛t work anymore. Presentations include:
AARP University Sessions – AARP University was created to provide interactive, educational sessions by AARP staff experts on the latest AARP research, programs, services, benefits and larger issues of interest that affect AARP members and society. This year‛s panels include:
Movies for Grownups® is "a high-impact multimedia franchise started in 2002 by AARP The Magazine editors to spotlight and celebrate movies with storylines, performances and filmmaking that have distinct relevance to the 50-plus audience."

Thunder Soul

"In the 1970s, music teacher Conrad "Prof" Johnson transformed Houston’s struggling Kashmere High School Stage Band into a world-class funk powerhouse. In this music-filled, heartfelt documentary, the band’s illustrious alumni return to play a tribute concert for 92-year-old Prof."
Mexico: The Royal Tour

A whirlwind tour of Mexico with AARP's Travel Ambassador, Peter Greenberg, in the company of Mexico‛s President Felipe Calderon, as they go cave diving, pyramid climbing, zip lining and spelunking down a 1,000-foot-deep cavern. Greenberg will host the screening.

A 27-year-old writer learns he has cancer. He also has a support group (sort of): "a well-meaning pal, a freaked-out girlfriend, a too-involved shrink and a smothering mom. Rogen and writer Will Reiser will introduce the film.

This hit on the festival circuit is about a young man who learns that his father not only has a deadly form of cancer, but is also gay.
On The Shoulders of Giants

"The best basketball team you’ve never heard of was also probably one of the best basketball teams of all time." The Harlem Renaissance, an all-African American team, won the first-ever national professional basketball title in 1939 against the top all-white team in the U.S. The director and Kareem Adbul-Jabbar will introduce this documentary.
