If one goal drives (so to speak) this site, it’s crossing the intersection of travel, technology and extended events.
One festival or expo that merges travel and tech is the annual New York International Auto Show held at the Javits Center, this year from March 29 - Apr 7th, 2013. In its 113th edition, the event features debuts from most major car companies as well as many of the Euro and international brands.
The show offers virtually every make and model vehicle sold in the U.S. under one roof giving consumers a unique opportunity to see everything the auto industry offers from fuel-sipping economy cars to million dollar supercars.
Launched in 1900, the NYIAS became North America's first automotive exhibition. For over 100 years, through depression, war, boom-time, oil crisis, recession and growth, it continued its pioneering mission of bringing new and innovative automotive ideas to a national and world stage.
In the last decade, the Show has boasted of an increased number of new vehicle announcements, broken attendance figures and increased media attention to extraordinary levels.
Combined with the fact that metro New York is one of the nation's largest markets for new car and truck sales, the Show is now one of the most important automotive events in the world.
In addition to its place as one of the world's greatest public shows, NYIAS has expanded its range of world-class trade and industry events.
Today, nearly 100 individual events, conferences, industry forums, symposiums, award ceremonies, roundtables, and parties take place during the Show's press preview week - in addition to the more than two dozen press conferences hosted by the automakers.
No other event brings business, consumer and lifestyle press, Wall Street's financial community, Madison Avenue marketing and advertisers, and the nation's largest and most diverse metropolitan population together in such a unique way.
Over the last few years most of the excitement has been generated not by slick stylings or celeb endorsements but by advances in gas efficiency, digital adaptation of a car’s inner workings and the interplay between i-phone/android and auto.
Highlights this year include:
Not only that but it stirs thought about whatn the future might bear -- driverless cars, flying vehicles, anti-gravity drives, or maybe… “Beam me up Scotty?”
