The Inaugural Nomading Film Festival (NoFF), the Film Festival for the Travel Community, takes place June 18, 2011 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Hostelling International in New York City, the largest hostel in North America and home to the biggest private outdoor gathering space -- 15,000 sq-ft -- in Manhattan.
The Nomading Film Festival is not just a film festival but a unique celebration that caters to travelers who film, not just filmmakers who travel. This is a film festival celebrating the traveler's desire to record his/her journey while also enjoying the best of what travel brings: conversation and community.
NoFF believes that stories caught on film, while traveling, are some of the most entertaining, educating and authentic films created. NoFF acknowledges the nomads who leave their comfort zones behind and capture their adventures on film.
NoFF asked the travel community to "Engage. Explore. Record" and they obliged. Submissions from travelers visiting over 60 countries ranged in topics, but each was no more than 15 minutes in length.

The creator of the winning film receives a trip for two in India, sponsored by Intrepid Travel. Other winners receive various prizes from festival sponsors, EMS, Outdoor Bound, Manhattan Portage and more.
"Partnering with the Nomading Film Festival just made perfect sense for us," said Cody Hartley, director of marketing for Semester at Sea, one of NoFF’s partners. "Video and digital storytelling is a new currency and those who are fluent in it will have a leg up in anything they do in the future. NoFF is inspiring travelers to share their experiences with the world."
Lonely Planet’s U.S. Editor, Robert Reid, is the festival’s keynote speaker.
Additional activities at the festival include:
and a few other surprises throughout the day.
With an expected attendance of approximately 300 guests, travelers throughout North America and New York City’s own formidable travel community are expected to come out to support the film festival and NoFF’s commitment to bringing together travel adventures both on screen and in person.
"It’s exciting to see the groundswell we’ve been able to create in our inaugural year," said NoFF co-founder Josh Wolff. "NoFF’s message of ‘your story matters’ has struck a cord with the travel world."
"We know that we are nothing without our community so we worked hard with our partners to try and give back to those people who really made the Nomading Film Festival possible," said Mikey Kavalus, co-founder of the festival.
The entrance fee includes 2 tacos from the Tribeca Taco Truck and two drinks courtesy of Butternuts Beer & Ale and The Naked Grape winery.
