The 19th Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) 2011 runs October 13 - 17, 2011 at the United Artist Theater and Regal East Hampton Cinema 6 in the village of East Hampton, the Bay Street Theatre and Sag Harbor Cinema in Sag Harbor, the Montauk Movie in Montauk, Regal Bay Cinemas in Southampton, and the Hampton Arts Cinema in West Hampton Beach, in New York.
"The Hamptons International Film Festival was founded to celebrate the Independent film -- long, short, fiction and documentary -- and to introduce a unique, varied spectrum of international films and filmmakers to the public.
The Festival is committed to exhibiting films that express fresh voices and differing global perspectives, with the hope that these programs will enlighten audiences, provide invaluable exposure for filmmakers and present inspired entertainment for all."
The Opening Night Film is Jeff, Who Lives at Home, directed by Jay Duplass and Mark Duplass and starring Jason Segel, Ed Helms, Susan Sarandon, Judy Greer, Rae Dawn Chong. Jeff, 34, is perfectly content to spend his life in his mother‛s basement. "A call from his exasperated mom begging him to complete a simple errand shakes a begrudging Jeff off the couch. Suddenly, the universe begins to deliver important signs that could unlock his destiny."
The Centerpiece Film is Like Crazy, directed by Drake Doremus and starring Felicity Jones, Anton Yelchin, Jennifer Lawrence, Charlie Bewley, Alex Kingston, Oliver Muirhead. This story of star-crossed love between two students has been a festival favorite ever since Sundance last January.
The Closing Night Film is The Artist, directed by Michel Hazanavicius and starring Jean Dujardin, Bérénice Bejo, John Goodman, James Cromwell, Penelope Ann Miller, Missi Pyle. This comedic tribute to silent films is set in 1927, when a new development struck terror into the hearts of actors everywhere: "talking pictures".
