The Vail Film Festival Continues In 2012

Vail Film FestivalFilm festival at a ski resort? You bet!

Opening March 29 - April 1 2012, at the ski resort of Vail, Colorado, the annual  Vail Film Festival makes it to its ninth edition.

The Vail FF promotes independent filmmaking, with a special focus on new and innovative filmmakers. Besides screening some of the year's top films from around the globe, the festival also features workshops, seminars, industry panel discussions and special events with award-winning actors, writers and directors.

With Cadillac as a returning sponsor, this four-day event includes a special awards ceremony, ski and snowboarding, VIP parties and live music as well as a rich film program.

Produced by the Colorado Film Institute, this non-profit arts organization is dedicated to fostering independent cinema and creative filmmaking.

There will be numerous events this year which celebrate films and filmmakers from all over the world.

Screenings place in various venues:

  • Sebastian Hotel in Vail Village
  • The Four Seasons
  • Vail Mountain School
  • Cinebistro in Solaris Plaza

Alongside the film festival, the annual screenplay competition will be running in unison. Attendees will experience a weekend filled with film screenings, parties, live music, ice skating, and a hospitality lounge with complimentary Stella Artois, leading to the closing night of the ceremony.

The festival begins Thursday evening with The Eye of the Storm directed by Vanguard Award Recipient Fred Schepisi. The Opening Night Party features live art by pop artist Michael Perez in association with Gallery 212 Miami, the Art Gallery partner of the 2012 Festival, and Stella Artois, who returns as the Official beer of the Vail Film Festival for the 8th year.

Performing liveFriday, March 30th, is the acclaimed Hotel Café as well as musicians Sara Bareilles (Three-time Grammy nominee, Celebrity judge on NBC’s hit show ‘The Sing Off’), Cary Brothers (Best known for his song ‘Blue Eyes’ from the Grammy-winning ‘Garden State’ soundtrack), Laura Jansen, Greg Laswell, Javier Dunn, Buddy, and Harper Blynn at Sebastian Hotel.

The Sebastian -- HQ base for the four-day event --  offers the Bloom Spa, Frost Bar, Market for nibbles, and the Block 16 restaurant. There’s a mountain-view pool, hot tubs and a roaring fire pit.

Base Camp offers ski-in ski-out access from Vail's Vista Bahn lift, just at the foot of Vail Mountain. Ski valets help you into warm ski boots and out onto the mountain. As the place in the mountains, The Sebastian is the Vail loved by many with a dazzling new twist.

Another unqiue aspect of the for this year’s Vail Film Festival is the CinéBistro, a sophisticated “dinner-and-a-movie” experience located at Solaris in Vail Village. Offering amenities such as reserved seating in over-sized leather seats, in-theatre, full-service dining and state-of-the art movie viewing.

Saturday, March 31st will be concluding with the annual awards ceremony at the Vail Mountain School, honoring outstanding members of the industry including Fred Schepisi and Krysten Ritter, followed by the Closing Night Party at Sebastian Vail.

Following the Saturday evening awards ceremony, the Vail Film Festival will present the Closing Night Film, L!fe Happenshelmed by Vail Film Festival alum and talented new director Kat Coiro, staring Krysten Ritter, Kate Bosworth, and Rachel Bilson.
