Featuring films from Angola to Bermuda, the annual Pan African Film Festival returns for its 21st year as America's largest commemoration of African culture in film. This year, PAFF will run from February 7-18, 2013, in two Los Angeles area venues -- Rave Cinemas and at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza.
Set in motion by Danny Glover, Ja’Net DuBois and Ayuko Babu in 1992, PAFF set out to resurrect the image of the African lifestyle in film, promoting films that depict a different, positive perspective on the Black experience. Its goal -- to have life follow art and change the narrative in which Black culture is consumed and perpetuated.
Opening night will feature Forest Whitaker and Anthony Mackie in Phillippe Caland's Vipaka which explores the idea of karma within the context of a modern psychological thriller.
Running 11 days, the festival will feature 154 films from 34 countries covering a ranges of themes demonstrating positive and insightful aspects of life for people of African origins.
