The 50th Anniversary NY Antiquarian Book Fair, sponsored by the ABAA, opens Thurs. April 8th - April 11, 2010, at the Park Avenue Armory at 67th Street. Two hundred international dealers will fill the expansive show floor with rare books, manuscripts, maps, and ephemera in this New York institution known as the country’s oldest and most prestigious book fair.
PREVIEW: Thursday, April 8
Thursday, April 8 from 5pm – 9pm, the public is welcome to preview the fair. This event offers the first chance to browse and buy. Wine and refreshments will be served. Tickets to the preview are $50 and include one readmission to the fair later in the weekend.
Nicholas Basbanes Book signing: Friday, April 9
Friday, April 9 at 4:30pm, Nicholas Basbanes will be present for an exclusive book signing of his new work, “About the Author: Inside the Creative Process.” This will be the first time the book will be offered for sale, and proceeds will support the ABAA library fund. “About the Author: Inside the Creative Process” collects more than forty of Basbanes’s interviews and essays that grew from this unique period of publishing.
Stuart Lutz Book signing: Saturday, April 10
Saturday, April 10, at 1pm, Stuart Lutz will sign copies of his new book, “The Last Leaf. Blending background information and lively narrative with the words of interviewees, “The Last Leaf” recounts the personal stories told by witnesses of major historical events such as the final living American soldier from World War I and the last suffragette.
Discovery Day: Sunday, April 11
Sunday, April 11 from noon to 3pm, ticketed fairgoers may bring up to 5 of their own rare books, manuscripts, maps, etc. to Discovery Day. Exhibitors will be on hand to offer expert advice and free appraisals.
Regular Fair hours are Friday from noon to 8pm, Saturday from noon to 7pm, and Sunday from noon to 5pm. A café and bar will be open during show hours to serve refreshments. Admission is $20 daily, $30 for a two-day pass, or $45 for a run-of-show pass. Student and group rates are available.
