NY Armory Arts Week

The NY Armory Arts Week is being held March 3 - 6, 2011 at Piers 92 & 94, Twelfth Avenue and 55th Street, New York City. Armory Arts Week is the umbrella for nine Art Fairs featuring special must-see events that range from special receptions, open studios, art tours, museum discounts and performances to panels and artist discussions -- and, of course, parties.

The Armory Show, America's leading fine art fair, has been devoted to the most important art of the 20th and 21st centuries. From its beginnings as the annual celebration of graphic arts, the idea of a week of arts-related events made sense in a city that has always attracted artists, galleries, collectors, critics and curators from all over the world.

This invitational show of solo artists’ projects is the American edition of the fair founded in Basel in 2005, showcasing current art producti
on and relevant contemporary positions regardless of the artist or gallery’s age.

ADAA: The Art Show
Now in its 23rd year, the country’s longest running national art fair brings together museum quality exhibitions of art ranging from cutting-edge, 21st century works, to museum-quality pieces from the 19th and 20th centuries. Organized by ADAA to benefit the Henry Street Settlement, the Fair’s "commitment to curatorial expertise and diversity is ever-present in the show’s conception, presentation, and execution."

Fountain Art Fair
An alternative exhibition of avant-garde galleries and art collectives, Fountain features more than 20 innovative exhibitors and art projects. This year the Grace Exhibition Space hosts 30–40 world-ren
owned performance artists in a series of never-before-seen live action works on-site. Their highlight: Infiltrate! Performance Art Festival, a four-day curated program of Performance Art wherein the artists commandeer the lightship Frying Pan "with spontaneous actions to heave overboard all preconceived notions of art fairs."

INDEPENDENT
This award winning temporary exhibition forum is devised by and for gallerists. "reexamines traditional art fair models and methods of presentation, in response to the changing attitudes and growing challenges for artists,
galleries, non-profits, curators and collectors as the experience of viewing and interacting with contemporary art in a group context."

Moving Image - an Art Fair of Contemporary Video Art
A selection of international commercial galleries and non-profit institutions presents single-channel videos, video sculptures, and other larger video installations.

PULSE Contemporary Art Fair
PULSE exhibitors "are a select group of leading and pioneering international galleries that present works by premier contemporary artists wit
h those of emerging and undiscovered talents. A central component of the fair is its program of commissioned cultural projects linking its audience to all aspects of the visual and performing arts."alt

Red Dot Art Fair - Korean Art Show
Red Dot supplies a venue for art galleries seeking to present work of lasting value and beyond current trends.  This year at Armory Art Week,
Red Dot is hosting the annual Korean Art Show, with Galleries Association of Korea and Korea International Art Fair (KIAF) featuring the work of Patrick Singh.

SCOPE New York
SCOPE New York presents over 50 international galleries from four continents and sixteen countries, including China, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Brazil, Italy, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Germany, UK, Spain, and Canada. "Its invitees uphold its unique tradition of solo and the
matic group shows providing the real opportunity for gallerists, collectors, curators, artists, critics and art lovers alike to experience a view of the contemporary art market available nowhere else. ... Verge Art Brooklyn
A brand new art fair, Verge Art Brooklyn is a whole new universe of artists, music, art, and community, and strives to present "a paradigm shift in art fairs as we know them, a show that recovers the standard of an art fair as a platform for presenting the best work by living artists." Their list includes gallery exhibitors, resident DUMBO galleries and Brooklyn Art Now participants, with some 40 participants for Material Issue: Artist's Projects S
paces. Their Tomorrow Stars: The Art Brooklyn Open Call Exhibition features the work of 50 up-and-coming artists.

ArtCat features several gallery openings, including:
