Origin 1st Irish Festival 2025: Irish Art & Theatre in NYC

For years the 1st Irish Festival has been bringing contemporary Irish theatre to NYC and this year it returns with a new crop of plays. Running April 1st to the 28th, the Origin 1st Irish Festival features five critically acclaimed productions from Ireland with their original cast as well as 11 plays in competition.

Productions include Tom Moran Is A Big Fat Filthy Disgusting Liar. Tom is a charismatic people-pleaser, an expert in empathy, but someone who struggles with the truth. Explored through the dynamic of a mother-daughter relationship, In Two Minds is deeply personal look at the allure and the challenges of living with bipolar disorder.  Fight Night is a journey charting the comeback of Dan Coyle Jr., a failed amateur boxer from a long line of accomplished fighters as he battle with life, love, and temptation. A satirical look at Irish theatre, Irishtown follows a group of performers preparing for their new show. After the astounding success of their last production, the company are scheduled to open on Broadway, with the same visionary playwright at the helm. However, trouble arises when the actors decide she’s going too dark, too experimental, and… not Irish enough?

The festival also includes readings and special events such as the book launch for Rockin’ the Bronx by Larry Kirwan, with the author being interviewed by Rich McLaughlin, Program Director of WFUV-FM. Irish Stew - Live from 1st Irish is an in-depth conversation on the role of theatre in promoting Northern Ireland's image around the globe with the Irish Stew podcast.
