Broadway Ballyhoo Festival at Feinstein's 2012

ballyhooScott Siegel’s Broadway Ballyhoo Festival will continue at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency (540 Park Avenue at 61st Street, NY, NY), for an entire week starting July 17 - 21, 2012. The well-known play Broadway Ballyhoo, which has been playing every Thursday night at 11pm for the last eight months, will move to primetime at 8pm for a week only from Tuesday, July 17 through Saturday, July 21.

Each show in its primetime schedule will feature a variation of different casts and different set show tunes, while following the Broadway Ballyhoo format. The performers featured on various nights will include 

  • Barbara Walsh (Tony Award nominee) 
  • Jack Noseworthy(Broadway and film star)
  • Karen Mason (WonderlandSunset Blvd.)
  • William Michals (South Pacific)
  • Stephen DeRosa (Into The Woods)
  • Lisa Howard (Spelling Bee, Drama Desk winner)
  • Ben Davis (Tony Award honoree)
  • Carole J. Bufford (award winning vocalist)
  • Christiana Bianco (Drama Desk nominee)
  • Scott Coulter(award winning vocalist)

Scott Siegel, the show's creator and host who has also been responsible for more than 100 major concerts at The Town Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center, said "…This special Ballyhoo Festival gives us a chance to reach those people who like to hear this music but can't always stay up that late on a  Thursday night. We wanted to give them a taste of what we offer every week.”

19th Ice Factory Fest Brings Daring New Theatre

apocalypseBecause it just wouldn’t be summer in New York City without some experimental theater, the New Ohio Theatre (154 Christopher Street) will be holding the 19th annual Ice Factory Festival (June 27 – Augest 4 2012). Based on the simple concept of six plays in six weeks, the Ice Factory Festival is a daring assembly of the theatre world’s emerging actors and writers. The plays being shown are a unique blend the bizarre, the hysterical, and the tragic, and culled from novelists and playwrights for a most unusual brand of theatre.

River to River Fest 2012: Downtown NYC and the Arts

river to river seaportSince 2002, the River To River Festival has been “an essential component of Lower Manhattan’s vital and vibrant cultural life“, says the festival's website. June 17 to July 15 2012, the River To River Festival returns to New York with its unique combination of artists and environmentalism. The festival is city wide and covers a wide range of activities including art exhibitions, plays, concerts, walking tours, and embraces both established artists, and young newcomers showing off their talents. Best of all, every event is free!

On June 20 at Rockefeller Park, the Philip Glass Ensemble will be performing a free concert to celebrate Glass’ 75th birthday. Founded in 1968, The Philip Glass Ensemble was a group Glass formed as an outlet for his more experimental musical endeavors. The concert will open with a performance by youth ensemble Face the Music.

Underground Zero Festival 2012

A Brief History of Avant Garde Theater in NYC   By Arnold Aronson with special guest Judith MalinaThe 2012 Underground Zero Festival will be held June 29-July 29 2012 at The Living Theatre (21 Clinton Street), Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center (107 Suffolk St # 312) in Manhattan as well as JACK (505 1/2 Waverly Ave, Brooklyn) and Scapegrace (20 Wyckoff Avenue, Brooklyn) in Brooklyn.

The presenters at the festival will be various independent artists in theater, dance, multimedia and installation who have established the undergroundzero unit in order to improve conditions in NYC and to channel an artist-driven and focused event with the incorporation of artistic and social themes.
