The Go Green Expo returns to Los Angeles April 15 - 17, 2011 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Downtown LA, California.
Launched by Bradford Rand and his team at Expo International, the idea was conceived after he viewed the film An Inconvenient Truth. As a producer of over 800 shows & job fairs since 1993, he knew that a showcase of all of the latest and greatest eco-friendly products would make for a solid new trade show.
He was right. The Go Green Expo has become one of the nation’s premier eco-friendly events, with each expo featuring more than 250 exhibitors, more than 50 speakers and nearly 10,000 attendees.
This year’s event features appearances by a number of notable environmental figures. Veteran actor -- and, since he started in 1970, veteran activist -- Ed Begley, Jr. and actress/author Mariel Hemingway return to LA to share and encourage once again.
Some of the speakers joining them this year are:
Panel Discussions:
Friday, April 15
Saturday, April 16
Sunday, April 17
Eco-Film Showcase:
Dive!
dir. Jeremy Seifert
Follow Seifert and his friends as they dumpster dive in the back alleys and gated garbage receptacles of L.A.'s supermarkets. In the process, they salvage thousands of dollars worth of good food and uncover a disturbing truth about waste in America. The goal quickly becomes finding out why so much edible food is thrown away instead of being given to those who need it.
Riding Bikes with the Dutch
dir. Michael W Bauch
We have become a society that values bigger, faster, and more and we've lost sight of the larger picture. Riding bikes certainly won't fix all of these problems by itself, but it can be an integral part to a better life for everyone.
imush q'uyatl'un
dir. Karolle Wall
This is a beautiful, short art film/documentary of a nudibranch (sea snail or sea slug) dancing to the drum beat and rhythm of an aboriginal, Coast Salish song. It bears an environmental message passed on for thousands of years: If we are to save our environment, appreciate our coastal, marine ecosystems, we must pay attention and bear witness to even the smallest of creatures.
How to Boil a Frog
dir. Jon Cooksey
Canadian super-scientist Jon Cooksey is also a great showman. He dramatizes with clips, animation, and his own unique way of explaining how we got into the fossil fuel and environmental crises we are facing now.
Sick-Amour
dir. Joel Tauber
This documentary / love story celebrates the forlorn and lonely tree that Tauber adopted in the middle of a giant parking lot at the Rose Bowl.
Eye to Eye
dir. Andrea Capranico, Hannah Liora Taylor, Nicholas Wiesnet, Breanna Wing
In the paradise of Cameroon's rainforest, chimpanzees and gorillas face imminent extinction at the hands of bushmeat hunters. Courageous conservationists lead the battle for survival of man's closest relatives in the animal world before it is too late.
Sunscreen Serenade
dir. Kriota Willberg
This homage to 1930s Busby Berkeley musicals boasts a couple of interesting twists: fingers that can dance and an environmental message.
Climate Change: How do we Know
A renowned scientist takes us to Antarctica to show scientific evidence behind climate change in 800,000 year old ice cores.
The Incident at Tower 37
dir. Chris Perry
This remarkable film was made by college students who Pixar thought were so talented, the company gave them their proprietary design software to create it. It’s been winning awards and was just signed for distribution by Participant Films, the company behind An Inconvenient Truth.
Houston We Have A Problem
dir. Nicole Torre
Step inside the energy capital of the world to hear the hard truth about oil and gas, straight from the Texas oilmen themselves. Around the world, aggressive strategies for securing crude now go to the highest bidder or the biggest bully. See the birth of the clean energy revolution and 21st century "Wildcatters" who are pioneering a better way. This film brings both sides of the aisle together, seeking solutions, and making it clear that we must embrace all forms of alternative energies in order to save the planet and ourselves.
