The Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) will host a series of special sessions devoted to jazz and jazz musicians at the organization's APAP|NYC conference from January 6-10, 2012, in Manhattan's HiltonHotel on 6th Ave. between W. 54th and 53rd Streets). The conference is the largest annual gathering of performing arts industry professionals, and the jazz track offers both free and registration-required events.
The series kicks off with the JazzTimes DIY Crash Course is a pre-conference workshop, in collaboration with JazzTimes magazine on Jan. 5th at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers (811 7th Ave. 212-581-1000) with a day of workshops and presentations, which is free and open to the public. It is geared toward both emerging and established artists, as well as jazz and
performing arts professionals and students.
Among the workshop topics are:
Throughout the day, artists and professionals will deliver "solo spots," short TED-like inspirational presentations by a various jazz artists.
The JazzTimes DIY Crash Course is the one-day precursor to JazzConnect: Building Jazz Culture - Local to Global, the jazz track that runs throughout APAP|NYC 2012 from Jan. 6-10 at the Hilton.

The additional five sessions are part of APAP|NYC and require paid registration.
So not only is it free, it provides potentially interesting sessions on the jazz industry in 2012.
