In this era in which everyone is taking pictures, yet they have virtually vanished from the physical world, it is interesting to see how the medium of the photography is evolving
The AIPAD Photography Show (March 29 – April 1, Park Ave Armory, 643 Park Avenue, New York, NY), arrives during this unseasonably warm and pleasant March to help everyone reassess their notions of what true, non-cell phone, photography is.
Presented by The Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD), more than 75 photography galleries will present a wide range of work, including contemporary, modern and nineteenth-century photographs, as well as photo-based art, video, and new media.
The Robert Klein Gallery, which will be exhibiting work from Irving Penn, Francesca Woodman, and Berenice Abbott. The Catherine Edelman Gallery will be displaying the work of Kelli Connell, who will be signing copies of her new book, Double Life, at the Catherine Edelman Gallery booth.
James Hyman Photography will be exhibiting a fascinating display as part of their new series, From Sermons in Stone to Monsters of Modernity: Early French Photography and the Church, exhibiting photographs of gothic French architecture from the dawn of photography in the mid 19th century. The display will also include a new book on the subject with an essay by James Hyman.
AIPAD will also include a series of panel discussions including a conversation with Rineke Dijkstra on contemporary female photographers and her new exhibition, discussion on how to best collect and preserve photographs, and a retrospective on Francesca Woodman.
AIPAD offers a unique look into the past, present, and future of photography with a great cross-section of international and local artists.
