The 2009 International Film Festival Summit

As the single largest international organization representing the film-festival industry, The International Film Festival Summit continuously aims to keep industry professionals informed of the latest trends, in order to help to cultivate new ideas for future events.

The 6th Annual IFFS, to be held from Dec. 6 to Dec. 8 at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, will have industry leaders discussing current trends in funding and sponsorship, programming, operations and management, publicity and public relations, acquisition and distribution, technology, long-term planning and sustainable growth, and executive management.

The IFFS mission is to provide a platform for the community to explore ways to collaborate and promote the film-festival industry. It is the exclusive large annual gathering for industry professionals, vendors and others to have dialogue with peers, share insights and gain knowledge that will help film festivals grow and thrive.

Two final panels for Dec. 8 will be "Jury and Your Festival: Selection and Working with the Jury to Reflect Your Festival's Mission" and "Year-Round Film Festival Management: Extending Festival Activities and Experience to 365 Days."

The former emphasizes the importance of carefully selecting which individuals become the face of one's festival. The panelists — who include Tiziani Finzi, director of the Miami International Film Festival; Dan Brawley, director of the Cucalorus Film Festival; Marc Lhormer, founder of the Napa Valley Film Festival; and Peter Stein, executive director of the San Francisco Jewish Film Festivalwill answer such questions as, "What criteria go into jury selection?" and "How can you make sure your jury's choices reflect the vision of your festival?"

"Year Round Film Festival Management" will explore how festival professionals can engage audiences all year. Catherine Wyler, artistic consultant for the Rochester High Falls International Film Festival, and Natalie McMenemy, managing director for Aspen Film, will discuss what works and doesn't work in increasing value for sponsors and encouraging community support — all while staying on a budget.
