April 9thmarks the beginning of the much acclaimed Aspen Shortsfest. Boasting films that range anywhere from 2 to 40 minutes, this top-dog of the shorts festivals attracts talent old and new as films starring Hollywood regulars Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman will compete alongside new talent altogether. The Aspen Shortsfest takes place from April 9-14, 2013, at both the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen and the Crystal Theatre in Carbondale.
After nearly 3,000 films were considered for submission, 83 made the final cut and this eclectic group represents documentaries, dramas, comedies and animated movies from over 30 countries such as Mozambique, Thailand, Cuba, USA, Iran, Russia, Liberia and China.
The Shortsfest will also host a panel featuring some of the best writing talent in the world of premium television including:
They will share their experiences working within the episodic medium and the challenges of capturing the magic-in-a-bottle that is addicting television.
Those suffering the blows of a withered economy can still attend a free special event ironically titled ‘Producing a Film From Start to Film’. This panel will be leader by Colorado Film Commissioner, producer and actor Donald Zuckerman and will unravel the intricate process of assembling films from scratch.
From the humble beginnings of discovering the perfect script to choosing the right director, scooping up the bankable stars and the near boundless menagerie of tidbits that go into postproduction, Zuckerman will take it all on at the Mountain Chalet on Saturday, April 13.
