Escape to New York is a party like no other. With top-notch musical acts, installations and performance art, and high-end camping, the 3-day music festival is running from August 5 - 7, 2011 on the Shinnecock Reservation in Southampton, New York.
The Shinnecock Tribe has lived in Eastern Long Island for thousands of years. A friendship between Rocco Gardener and tribe member Eric Douglas laid the groundwork for the Festival. Together, they decided to host a concert on the Reservation's main Pow Wow Ground.
When Rocco met Freddie Fellowes, creator of England's Secret Garden Party, their objective became getting the unique party to the Reservation. Escape to New York is the first event of its kind in the US.
Over 90 musical acts will perform on 4 stages throughout the weekend event. Headliners include:
In addition to the musical talent, Escape to New York is bringing other forms of art to the forefront of the festival scene. Event producers Mark Winkel and Kevin Balktick were key players in transforming the Reservation into an engaging fantasy land. Festival-goers will be entertained by a plethora of different artists.
The MP3 Experiment by Improve Everywhere is a public event where participants download an MP3 to their mobile device. In the same location at a predetermined time, everybody presses Play and follows the instructions. Participants have a blast as the rest of the crowd tries to figure out what is going on.
Other performances and art installations include:
There will also be a series of lectures on unconventional scientific topics during the entire weekend.
Joining the artists and performers are culinary craftsmen Silkstone, known for The Fat Radish on the Lower East Side in New York City. There will be 12 New York-based restaurants at the Festival, such as Luke's Lobster and Brinkley's.
Best Beverages is curating the drinking experience for the event and have developed a cocktail menu featuring local, in-season produce for four bars on the site.
On Sunday, festival-goers are attempting to break the record for the world's largest brunch.
This luxury-laden festival doesn't stop there. There is high-class, glamorous camping, or "Glamping" for those who wish to stay overnight in style. Choose from several styles of accommodations and enjoy working showers and restrooms, shuttles to and from the main stage, and all the accouterments you would expect from a five-star resort, including Bell Boys. Attendees can also opt to camp the old-fashioned way or stay in a hotel.
Escape to New York trailblazers are encouraged to leave all preconceptions at the gate and let imaginations run wild.
