Meeting at the Bohemian National Hall (73rd Street btw. 2nd and 1st Ave), the 2016 Media Summit New York will examine the role that virtual reality and augmented reality will play in the entertainment industry. Over the years, The Media Summit, run by Digital Hollywood's Victor Harwood, has tracked the way digital technology has altered the course of media and charted the way both business models and comsumer consumption of media has radically changed.
With HTC’s Vive, the Oculus Rift, and the Microsoft HoloLens gearing up for their releases, speculators are wondering whether we will see a radical shift in the way we will be consuming entertainment or if this will be the 21st century equivalent of Betamax.
NextVR co-founder DJ Roller, will be giving the keynote speech, offering a five-year projection for how VR and AR will affect the entertainment industry and investors.
Aaron Luber, Head of Partnerships at Google Cardboard will be discussing the New York Times’ recent efforts to use virtual reality as a media tool and how the Google Cardboard device will put it in the hands of the masses while expanding imaginations.
Other panels will look at the funding VR and AR projects. And considering that both the Oculus (priced at $600) and the Vive (priced at $800) are pretty high ticket items for general consumers, this will be a pretty weighty subject both for makers of the technology and those creating content specific to it.
Other panels include how the marketing of AR and VR is expanding and changing; there will be workshops for developing for these new devices, and how other forms of entertainment like music, sports, and TV will be affected by these new tools.

Five Nights at Freddy's
Toy Fair 2016 is coming to the Jacob Javits Center and in it’s wake is a plethora toys, figures, statuettes, replicas, and more from every major franchise currently on TV, theaters, and the internet, and even a few original products too.
Shortly on the heels of the recently announced sequel, McFarlane Toys has announced a cavalcade of Titanfall figures coming soon. Along with Titanfall, McFarlane Toys also has planned merch and figures for The Walking Dead, Halo, Assassin's Creed, Spawn, the NFL, and the NBA. And if you ever wanted to recreate the sensation of playing a video game or watching a Let’s Play, but you want to do away with the whole computer thing, then McFarlane has the product for you with their new Five Nights at Freddy’s construction set based on the hit series of video games about homicidal animatronic animals.
Bluefin, distributor of Japanese collectibles shows off more from the high quality Tamashii Nations S.H. Figuarts (say that five times fast) line, with figures of Donatello and Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a near perfect recreation of how they looked on the original show.
Continuing the long line of Sailor Moon line of figures is everyone’s favorite evil daughter from the future that enjoys badminton and making creepy advances on her own father, Black Lady.
And to top it all off is the Kids Logic floating Delorean from Back to the Future II, shrunk down to a convenient 1/20th scale from the original car, it’s perfect for your homemade shrine to Robert Zemeckis.
Dark Horse shows off it’s polyresin statues of Korra and Aang from Nickelodeon’s Avatar: Legend of Korra and The Last Airbender series, perfect for letting your guests know that you do not approve of Fire Nation expansionist policy. And if you want to people to know how excited you are about our media-conglomerate enforced nerd mono-culture, there’s a wealth of Game of Thrones products on show including bookends, busts, and statues.
For fans of the RPG/novel series The Witcher, Dark Horse Deluxe is working with developers CD Projekt RED to produce a series of high end statues, busts, and action figures; prop and jewelry replicas; and barware, stationery, and other collectibles featuring the surly sorcerer slaying swordsman Geralt and other characters from the acclaimed video game series.
Looking for a fun toy that isn't based on a popular franchise? Mezzimatic LLC will be showing off their STEM and art themed activity kit, Goblies. Goblies allows you to create throwable, splatable paintballs to create your own Pollock-esque colorscapes.
And for those that prefer to build and construct, VICI Enterprises will be exhibiting their Miclick flexible construction system which originated in Spain but will soon be available in the US.
Making military-grade technology affordable and safe for kids, Nerf is releasing it’s own line of drones, with Recon Cam Drone and Air Defender X Drone Cam Copter with Wi-Fi, allowing users to do real time downloads of the footage taken from the drone. Perfect for the aspiring NSA recruit.
As always, the Toy Fair is woefully press only, but stay tuned to this website for info to come!
