Second Special Edition: NYC Changes Venue, But Is Still All About Comics

Returning to New York on June 6th and 7th, 2015, ReedPop's Special Edition: NYC is a convention that’s an extends its popular New York Comic Con (NYCC) which takes place in Autumn 2015. But this show primarily focuses on comic books and their creators. The art and writing of comics is highlighted here, not the Hollywood-ification that has become so popular that sometimes overshadows that core creative side.
This show brings together the creators and fans, and offers the experience that comic cons were originally intended to provide. This gives fans the opportunity to meet their favorite writers and artists from all over the world, get quality time with them, and give them the recognition they deserve without being overwhelmed by the media hype that’s taken over the scene at the media-driven cons.
The show utilized a structure similar to what’s done at NYCC's artist alley (
though this year it’s set at Pier 94 rather than the Javits Center). By being at a different venue this year, it highlights that is is different from NYCC. So the emphasis is on the fan, the creators' tables, comic vendors, and comic companies.
Here’s the chance to focus on meeting your favorite comic creator on a personal level, getting autographs and photos, or getting that one-of-kind commissioned sketch from somebody you’ve just discovered.
SEN features a long list of creators appearing, both returners from last year and new to the show. Guests include:

You can purchase comics getting great deals at this show. Perhaps you can search for that missing issue you need to fill out your collection, or gawk at/join in with the endless parade of cosplayers.
It’s reported that NYCC tickets will be available on-site during SE 2015 just in case you weren't able to obtain one through online -- or if you prefer to perform a traditional in-person transaction.
Go through your comic collections for that specific book you want signed by your favorite creator — check out the list on the website and see if they will be there; or save up some money to get an artwork created by your favorite artist right there at the show. This show will be one memorable experience for any comic fan — from the youngest to those convention veterans.

Games for Change Festival Examines Gaming's True Potential

In a relatively short span of decades, the medium of videogames has undergone many changes in the role they play in the cultural zeitgeist. From barroom novelty, to home entertainment, to just for kids, to grim and gritty, to massive to pocket, from complex to deceptively simple, the medium has taken many faces. The Games for Change Festival (April 21 -23, 2015), in conjunction with the Tribeca Film Festival and happening at the NYU Skirball Center (566 LaGuardia Pl., New York) looks not just how we play and what kind of games we play, but it also examines the massive cultural reverberations the medium has made, and how it is also a tool for growth, learning, and social change.Yes, even the Angry Birds.
The emergence of the controversial Gamergate movement, gaming’s first culture war, is addressed in a series of talks with Alexandria Neonakis (The Last of Us), Matt Boch (Fantasia: Music Evolved), and Anthony Burch (Borderlands 2) about how the industry can better address issues of inclusion and representation in games. Rovio, makers of Angry Birds, discuss how games play an instrumental role in learning, while the company Filament shows how to create games aimed at educating and tailor made for schools.
Along with the extensive panels, there will also be playable games including the nominees for this year’s Games for Change awards, boardgames from art-game collective Babycastles, and Gamedev.world, which looks at innovative independent games from all over the world.
The Games for Change Festival looks to the future of what video games truly have the potential to become.

Fast-track to the 3rd Industrial Revolution Through The Inside 3D Printing Expo

Inside 3D Printing returns to the Javits Convention Center in New York City on April 15–17, 2015. The largest professional 3D printing event, this conference and expo offers insights into the relatively new, ever-changing 3D printing industry.
The conference covers cutting edge technology alongside established trends in 3D. Inside 3D Printing offer attendees, as the buzz-phrase expresses, “Strategies for the third industrial revolution.”
Keynote speakers for this year’s conference include company VIPs from MakerBot, Accenture Technology Labs, and Hewlett-Packard. Sessions cover the most recent developments in the 3D printing industry and how they apply to industries ranging from fashion to aerospace.
