Internet Week NY 2014 Expands The Brand

Internet Week NY is upon us again this year enticing delegates with a packed week of web-related events to represent the diversity of what is the internet in the city. The now firmly established annual festival/celebration/set of conferences in New York City kicks off May 19th, 2014, and runs until May 25th. With its HQ centered at the Metropolitan Pavilion in midtown Manhattan, the fest also has satellite events at various locations throughout Manhattan.

Perhaps more than any other city in the world can the diversity of the internet in terms of content, culture, commerce, technology, and utility be found offline as well as online.

In recognition of The Big Apple's prominence in digital and web-based businesses, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio will outline his administration’s plans to develop NYC’s digital and technology start sector and reassure the sector that there is a positive way forward with opportunities for expansions and growth in New York City.

This is a year that sees the global media industry centered in New York make the transition from traditional media to a diversity of digital formats that are increasingly consuming smaller screens in mobile formats. The first generation of the digital media industry is scrambling to keep up or catch up as the digital media industry swiftly evolves towards new forms and formats.

This series of events continues to be a week-long charting of the development of the internet as it has evolved, building on a set of technologies that now connects almost everyone and, increasingly, everything.

The major themed days of the conference are: 

  • Monday: Media and Entertainment, plus Future of Marketing and Advertising
  • Tuesday: Retail and Commerce, plus Future of Money
  • Wednesday: Style and Design, Food and Tech, plus Transportation
  • Thursday: Social Good and Advocacy, Health and Wellness, plus Data

The four days of Internet Week can be a big commitment for anyone holding down a job, all be it in the Internet Industry, so this year Internet Week organizers have made the conference easier to attend on a selective basis with the availability of one day passes and by theming each day around one or two key themes. That makes it easier for a delegate to choose only one or two days rather than commit to attending all four days.

And if you are new to the technology and business of the Internet there are few such opportunities in the year to learn about it in one week. There is is greater emphasis on Internet Advertising in the content and also among the sponsors than in previous years demonstrating the still pivotal role and growing importance of Internet Advertising in monetizing the Internet keeping it alive and well and mostly free.

New York is an epicenter of internet advertising innovation and development -- at the intersection of media, advertising, and technology industries. Not surprisingly, this year’s internet celebration also has more to say about the development of the computerized, now called programmatic, execution of digital media buying and selling.

Programmatic advertising combines peer-to-peer online marketplaces connecting buyers and sellers, enabled with high levels of process automation replacing manual and outdated expensive buying and selling processes. However, this also means there has been an erosion of media buying built on relationships and trust that have been replaced by peer-to-peer markets that replace relationships with transactions and trust supplanted by technology.

This has created problems in the market structure and dynamics such as rampant fraud. No doubt it is a topic that will be hotly debated during the week alongside other developments such as mobile and video advertising, and the recent frenzy in buying attribution business.

Entertainment Technology Expo Teaches TV Tech

When navigating a world where film and media are controlled by new and emerging technologies that are constantly shifting and growing, things can get a little hectic. Ad Week NYC Goes Beyond Madison Ave.

nielsenStarting September 23rd to September 27th, Advertising Week NYC celebrates its 10th anniversary in New York City as the premier festival and celebration of the advertising industry. It is a week-long festival about the industry and an ideal opportunity for those in the industry to learn about what is new, where the money is being spent, what the challenges for the industry are and what skills you need to stay in demand.

Not only is it a festival for those in the industry but it is also for those want to learn more about the industry if you are a recent grad or just looking for a new career. Perhaps the premier celebration of all things digital advertising in the US, Advertising Week also packs in numerous presentations and panels from some of the leading thinkers and practitioners in the industry.
