In recent years, many people have been debating the validity of E3 as a gaming event, citing that it has become a bloated advertising space for self-congratulation and announcements that have already been leaked. But the fairly young (founded in 2009) Gamescom is an event that is still regarded as a true meeting of minds for the game developing world. Gamescom will be held August 15 – 19, 2012 at the Cologne Trade Fair (Messeplatz 1 50679 Cologne, Germany).

Otakon 2012 Unleashes Anime Fandom upon Baltimore

Ah, Baltimore; Home of crabs, John Waters, The Wire and one of the largest anime conventions in America. Otakon will be unleashing a horde of anime fans, cosplayers, industry movers-and-shakers, upon the Baltimore Convetion Center (1 West Pratt Street, Baltimore, MD 21201) July 27 – 29, 2012.
Otakon (that’s short for Otaku Convention) has, since 1994, been one of the great East Coast anime conventions with a focus on fan created panels and workshops. The eclectic mix of subject ranges from the academic to the comedic. Panels include:

From its humble beginning in 1970 in a hotel ballroom, the San Diego Comic Con has gone from the largest comic book-related event in the US, to contender for one of the largest all-around entertainment events.
At the San Diego Convention Center (111 W. Harbor Dr., San Diego, CA 92101) from July 12th - 16th, 2012, Comic Con will again be gracing us with news from industry giants and comic authors. In recent years however, many have griped that the event has become too bloated and is now more about movie studios pushing hot new properties instead of a con where you can meet comic book writers and artists.
