Play NYC is New York’s largest game convention for creators and players alike and for the first time, Play NYC will be online, free to attend, and a full week long. Running August 10 to 16, Play NYC was launched in 2017 and celebrates NYC’s gaming development scene and features the latest releases from studios large and small, and from developers old and new. Expect 70+ games from New York and beyond in addition to talks, panels, Graffiti Games, and exclusive demos.

This year’s Graffiti Games segment, presented by Rockstar Games, commissions developers to make socially conscious games for Play NYC. This year’s Graffiti Games will feature the work of five talented Black game developers that focus on the importance of creating a safe space for all to be their authentic selves.

The show must go on for the colossal publishing event BookExpo, so BookExpo Online will be bringing panels and discussions on the world of books to the internet. Starting Tuesday, May 26 through Friday, May 29, 2020 BookExpo Online has panels and events looking at the world of fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, picture books, and how the publishing industry is coping with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Panels include:

• BookExpo Young Adult Editor Buzz
• New Graphic Novel Showcase

BookExpo Online will be followed by BookConline, a two-day event on May 30-31 full of incredible panels with fan-favorite authors including Judy Blume, Cassandra Clare, Zoraida Cordova, Jenny Han, Jodi Picoult, Nic Stone and many more.

BookExpo and BookCon are hoping to resume their regular convention at the Javits Center in Spring of 2021.

Games for Change Festival 2020: The Virtual Fest Examining the Positive Impact of Games

In this time of social distancing and sheltering in place, video games have entered into a new relevancy. Not only are they the distraction and escapism tools that they’re usually considered, they’re how we interact with our friends when we can’t see them, and explore new worlds from the confines of our living rooms. The Games for Change Festival has been going on for years and has always known there was a socially important aspect to games. The Games for Change Festival explores the positive power of digital games and virtual technologies in three days of keynotes, panels, and networking workshops running July 14 - 16, 2020. For the first time registration will be free to all (though RSVP is required), as the festival is now going virtual. The festival’s programming revolve around four tracks: 

• Civics & Social Issues
• Games for Learning
• Health & Wellness
• XR for Change

This The XR for Change interactive sessions showcases the positive influence of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality, and the festival will have The Games for Change Award, which looks at important works and movement forward in games in the last year.

The festival will also have a Virtual Marketplace exhibiting games and demos to organizations, schools, and nonprofits,
